- In this quote Four was standing up for Tris, and at the same time protecting her. Her told Tris to act weak so by announcing to the entire crowd that Peter beat up Tris it made her look vulnerable
"Courageous? Courageous would have been admitting weakness and leaving Dauntless, no matter what shame accompanied it. Pride is what killed Al, and it is the flaw in every Dauntless heart. It is in mine." pg. 308-309
- Tris definitely had mixed feelings about Al, he was her friend but her betrayed her. But she does feel guilty about his death.
"For a few minutes we kiss, deep in the chasm, with the roar of water all around us. And when we rise, hand in hand, I realize that if we had both chosen differently, we might have ended up doing the same thing, in a safer place, in gray clothes instead of black ones." pg. 338
- Tris was implying that their paths would have crossed no matter what faction they would have chosen. Either Abnegation or Dauntless.
"He told me once to be brave, and though I have stood still while knives spun toward my face and jumped off a roof, I never thought I would need bravery in the small moments of life. I do." pg. 373
- Tris says this while she is with Four, she is scared to be with him. This is why he was one of her fears.
"I think we’ve made a mistake, ...We’ve all started to put down the virtues of the other factions in the process of bolstering our own. I don’t want to do that. I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and honest... I continually struggle with kindness." pg. 405
- Four is definitely Divergent, he doesn't just think like a Dauntless or like an Abnegation. Just like Tris he knows that he can't just be one thing. There is a little of every faction in him.
