Summary:
This peer reviewed article consists of the arguments of the Los Angeles coast as a public place. I choose this article because my essay is about how the Fisherman's village is being reconstructed for economic gain purposes and in this article they discuss the differences between "conflict between homeowners and the beach-going public over disputed terrain". According to this essay this conflicts are quite common along the Californian coastline. The general theme of this article in my opinion is that the classic model of urban public space that influences the assessment of impoverished public space of the Los Angeles metropolitan area overlooks the beaches specifically and the coastal area in general. Generally taking about how they are turning public space into private spaces. It talks a lot about how many how can afford housing around the coast are not allowed near the shore in certain places, in other words private beaches, something locals are very angry with. It also includes how modernizing the coast lines is greatly affecting the lower classes because it's beginning to be out of their access. In another view, coast line locals are also beginning to file complaints on the people who are visiting their back yards (the beach) making visiting the shore a lot more difficult and complicated.
